Protest Iranian Regime during Annual UN General Assembly
New York: September 23 & 24

Condemning the presence of the president of the Iranian regime, the world record-holder in per capita executions and the main state sponsor of terrorism, at UNGA
Thousands of Iranians to rally with American dignitaries: No to appeasement, no to the mullahs’ nuclear project, no to foreign war; Yes to regime change by the Iranian people and the organized Resistance.
Call to the international community: Immediately enforce UN Security Council resolutions, recognize the Iranian people’s right to overthrow the mullahs, take concrete measures to halt the brutal executions.
The rally, the largest gathering of Iranians in the United States coinciding with the UN General Assembly, is organized by the Organization of Iranian American Communities (OIAC) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).
Iranians from more than 40 states will come to New York. Starting on September 16, they will hold rallies, street exhibitions, and vigils in different parts of Manhattan to protest the presence of the regime’s president and to condemn executions, gross human rights violations, and the mullahs’ nuclear program.

Background Information
- In the first year of Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration, who is slated to represent the regime and address the UN General Assembly on September 24, more than 1,670 executions have been recorded. The regime has admitted to arresting 21,000 people on political charges in recent months.
- Nationwide uprisings since 2018 have shaken the foundations of the regime, while Iran faces crises such as constant power outages and water shortages. The regime has responded with an unprecedented wave of executions—including 170 in August and mass arrests of activists on one hand, and acceleration of its nuclear program on the other. On July 27, Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani, members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), were executed. Many other political prisoners face imminent execution.
- State media warn of a repeat of the 1988 massacre, a crime in which over 30,000 political prisoners (90 percent of them PMOI/MEK members) were executed over a few months on Khomeini’s fatwa. The UN Special Rapporteur on Iran, Javaid Rehman, in July 2024 described it as “genocide” and “a crime against humanity.”
- On August 28, the foreign ministers of France, Germany, and the UK sent a letter to the UN Secretary-General activating the snapback mechanism. After the 30-day period, they are calling for reinstatement of UN Security Council resolutions suspended under the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA), and for placing the Iranian regime under Chapter VII of the UN Charter.
- The demonstrators warn that granting the regime more deadlines on the nuclear issue will only worsen the crisis, embolden Tehran in its executions and nuclear weapons drive, and pave the way for war.
- Iranians support the “Third Option” presented by Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI: regime change by the people of Iran and their organized Resistance.
